The Big Breakfast Gatwick a hit with networkers – next stop Epsom in October

20 June 2017

South London’s most successful networking event is spreading its wings to three new venues in 2017 – and the first at Gatwick was voted a big success.

The Big Breakfast sponsored by London Gatwick Airport and Coast to Capital LEP, moved from its usual venue at Ikea Croydon, to the Hilton London Gatwick for June.

The speed networking initiative will also be going to Epsom Downs Racecourse on October 11, and Lingfield Park Racecourse on October 31.

An enthusiastic crowd of Surrey and south London business people, keen to make new contacts and generate fresh leads converged on the Hilton on June 15.

“It was my first time at The Big Breakfast and I thought it was absolutely fantastic,” said Tim Hatari, of Pro-actions Sussex.

“I’ve made some really useful contacts and I’m looking forward to following up with them. I appreciate this was a trial event at Gatwick, but along with a lot of other people, I would be particularly pleased if it came back here.”

David Fisher of NAC2000 in Horsham added: “It was very good – it was full of energy and people with exciting ideas who want to do business.

“I’ve made some good contacts and will hopefully get some business out of it. I’d tell anyone in business, practice your elevator pitch and come here – it’s fantastic.”

The Big Breakfast at Gatwick was co-sponsored by Gatwick Diamond Business and Manor Royal Business District. It started at 7am with a breakfast served by Hilton London Gatwick staff in Amy’s Restaurant, before the formal networking began.

Jeremy Taylor, Chief Executive of Gatwick Diamond Business, said: “I think it went very well – there was a good energy in the room with people who are well versed in networking who wanted to make the most of the opportunity.

“I think it would be good to hold it again at Gatwick – maybe three or four times a year would be quite interesting for the local business community.”

Paula Aldridge, Community Engagement Manager at Gatwick Airport said they were delighted with the success of the inaugural event at Gatwick.

She commented: “I think it’s been really successful – we got lots of businesses, including many new businesses, here to network, so we’re really delighted.”

Malcolm Brabon, Head of Services at Coast to Capital LEP said he was delighted to see the Big Breakfast expand and provide businesses from the Gatwick Diamond area the chance to network with Croydon and south London based companies.

He added: “The opportunities provided by linking up these two strong economic areas are significant and illustrates the level of business that this initiative can help unlock.”

Now in its 7th year, The Big Breakfast has grown to be one of south London’s most successful networking events, regularly attracting over 100 people to its Ikea Croydon venue.
