Be the Change

An inspirational programme to help local young people fulfil their potential and improve their life chances has been launched.
The Be the Change programme has been developed by LoveLocalJobs.com and social enterprise, humanutopia, to help 13 and 14 year-olds bridge the gap between education and employment.
The Crawley and Gatwick programme is supported by NatWest, Crawley Borough Council, the Careers & Enterprise Company, West Sussex County Council, Arora Hotel Gatwick, Southern Water, Gatwick Airport, the Crawley Observer and other local businesses.
Be the Change is a ground breaking, inspirational programme aimed at year 9 students who, for one reason or another, may have become disengaged with school or lack confidence in their own abilities; who may struggle academically, but have real potential once engaged in an activity that captures their imagination. The programme encourages students to identify their personal barriers to success, before helping them find ways of overcoming them.
Supported by the Be the Change team, business representatives from organisations across the local area are invited to be involved in the programme as mentors – they work closely with the students, sharing their experiences and their career journey’s, as well as encouraging the students and listening to their day to day struggles. Be the Change helps open student’s eyes to the world of work and wealth of the possibilities and career opportunities in their home town and beyond. It also provides a great opportunity for businesses to engage with their future workforce, building awareness of their employer brand amongst young people in their local area.
