Manor Royal BID responds to Davies Commission Report
01 July 2015
Steve Sawyer, Executive Director of Manor Royal Business Improvement District (BID), which is adjacent to Gatwick Airport and home to 500 companies and 30,000 employees responds to the Davies Commission Report.
He said: “This long-awaited recommendation is a big disappointment to many in the business community who support expansion at Gatwick. However, there are a number of caveats attached to the recommendation to expand Heathrow that leaves the door open for more debate and potentially more delay.
"There are some big question marks about how deliverable and politically acceptable the Heathrow option is and we urge the Government to get on and make a decision as soon as possible. Businesses have already been kept in a holding pattern for too long.
"If the Davies Report recommendation for expansion at Heathrow is accepted, we need a very clear steer about the retention of safeguarded land around Gatwick Airport. There is already an acute shortage of employment and housing land in this area and, if the land is not needed for a new runway, we want this land released for development.
"We urge Government to act quickly and take a decision, so we may plan for the future with some clarity.”
