Gatwick Diamond Initiative delivers record levels of new business

The Gatwick Diamond Initiative has revealed that, after just six months, suppliers attending the Gatwick Diamond ‘Meet the Buyers’ event have already generated more than £500k in new business and predict that future orders could eventually total over £8 million.

The annual Gatwick Diamond Meet the Buyers event, now in its 14th year, is sponsored by the Gatwick Diamond Initiative, Arora Hotel Gatwick, Gatwick Airport, Crawley Borough Council, Horsham District Council, the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and West Sussex County Council.  The event regularly attracts over 250 local companies supplying a range of products and services.  Also in attendance are the purchasing managers from some of the largest and most influential companies in the Gatwick Diamond such as Gatwick Airport, Canon, Nestlé, Sony, Balfour Beatty and Thales.

Research undertaken at the 2014 Meet the Buyers event found that 96% of buyers believed they would do business with the suppliers they had met on the day; and follow-up research a few weeks later discovered that suppliers had already secured contracts worth over £500k.  Rosemary French, Executive Director of the Gatwick Diamond Initiative says: “These findings send out a very clear message to the leaders of all small and medium sized businesses in the area - this is your chance to put yourself in front of some of the most important buyers in the region – you need to be there!”

Commenting on his attendance at the 2014 Meet the Buyers event, Adrian Munn, Director of Monochrome – a Leatherhead-based company specialising in web application design and development - says: “As a smaller business, it can be difficult to get yourself on the radar with larger businesses.  Often it’s simply a case of being able to identify the right person within the company and events such as Meet the Buyers are an ideal way of bringing both parties together in a friendly and supportive atmosphere for mutual benefit.”

ST*R Learning, a family business based in Oxted, which specialises in work-based training, development and consultancy, attended its first Gatwick Diamond Meet the Buyers event 13 years ago and has returned every year since.  Commercial Director, Carolle Thompson, explains: “The event provides a unique opportunity to get in front of a wide range of high quality buyers.  The excellent organisation and atmosphere of the day never fails to open up opportunities for ST*R Learning.”  She estimates that they have won new business worth almost half a million pounds from their attendance at the Meet the Buyers events.
