LOVELOCALJOBS.COM LAUNCHES WORLD OF WORK WITH SURREY SCHOOL STUDENTS, LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND BUSINESSES

An initiative to help young people learn about and access the workplace was launched on February 9 at Denbies Estate in Dorking.
“World of Work” is a website developed by local school students with the support and guidance of career and employment professionals from LoveLocalJobs.com, along with employers and local authorities in East Surrey.
The students, who are from Ashcombe School in Dorking, Blenheim School in Epsom, Reigate College and The Warwick School in Redhill, were presented with certificates of achievement by Rosemary French OBE from the Gatwick Diamond Initiative. Students from East Surrey College who created the video resources were also presented with their certificates of achievement. Georgina Angele, Senior Partnerships Manager from LoveLocalJobs.com who managed the project said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity to create a valuable tool to support young people on their journey through education and into the world of work. The partners, schools and students have been very committed to the project and the outcome is great website by local young people for local young people.”
World of Work offers advice on how to look for and apply for jobs, how to deliver the perfect interview and an insight into what employers expect from young people joining their business. Key resources include interviews with local hiring managers and business people with knowledge of the local job markets.
John Jory, CEO of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, said: “This is a unique partnership involving employers, students and local authorities and it’s fantastic to see what everyone has achieved. We have a great commitment to young people in our borough and I believe that World of Work will provide them with the information, inspiration and tools to find rewarding careers where they can achieve their full potential.”
Chloe Staff, a student at Reigate College and member of the WOW project group said:
“Helping to come up with a creative design for this website has been an amazing experience. Being part of a team that is creative and committed to the website is again amazing. Knowing that this website is to help people like me and are my age has made me feel passionate about and thankful that I am allowed to be a part of something so meaningful. I had a great time meeting and having the chance to interview employers that want to help our age group.”
World of Work is hosted on the main navigation bar of GatwickDiamondJobs.com and is available for all local schools, colleges and young people and their parents to access.
