SUSSEX ENERGY SAVING PARTNERSHIP PARTNER UPDATE
03 October 2013
West Sussex County Council selects Carillion as preferred bidder for delivering energy saving programme in Sussex.
West Sussex County Council, which led the procurement for the Sussex Energy Saving Partnership (SESP) has selected multi-national company Carillion as its preferred bidder for delivering energy saving initiatives in Sussex.
The multi-million pound contract aims to enable total energy savings of £30 million for Sussex residents over 20 years.
Detailed planning work will now start with a view to launching the scheme in the early part of 2014.
This is one of several energy saving initiatives being led by the SESP working with the local authorities across East and West Sussex and Brighton & Hove City council.
The aim is to deliver energy saving measures in up to 680,000 households over the next 25 years, starting with 17,000 by 2017.
Louise Goldsmith, Leader of West Sussex County Council, said: “We are delighted that Carillion is joining us in the delivery of this exciting project for our residents. As well as saving money on energy costs this project could offer many jobs across the county with opportunities for young people in apprenticeships.
“In difficult economic times, this is a real benefit for the environment, for our residents and for the economy”.
Carillion has managed national schemes for the alleviation of fuel poverty and is a pioneer in delivering whole house energy retrofit through their work with other authority schemes - like the SESP these schemes work with communities to help them access grants, Green Deal loans and other funding to improve their homes.
Louise said: “Carillion has shown commitment to Sussex and the local economy, in-depth awareness of our supply chain and customers, openness and flexibility and an understanding of the complexity of partnership working with all our many partners.
“The procurement process has been exemplary, completed in a little over nine months.”
Nigel Taylor, Chief Operating Officer for Carillion Services, said: “The appointment of a Delivery Partner for a large-scale programme of energy saving refurbishments in Sussex is a key element of the Council’s twenty year strategic plan of economic and social regeneration of Sussex, improving the local economy, achieving a low carbon economy, driving through sustainability for the long term and tackling fuel poverty. Carillion has a strong record of success in delivering energy programmes of this scale and we are delighted to be working in partnership with West Sussex County Council.”
