Coast to Capital, the Local Enterprise Partnership for West Sussex, Croydon, Brighton & Hove, Lewes and the Gatwick Diamond congratulates the recipients of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2013.
Recognised as the UK’s most prestigious business accolade, The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is given only to companies or individuals who are outstanding in their field. There are four categories, three of which are for business success in International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development and one for individual achievement in encouraging UK entrepreneurship.
This year's entries were of a particularly high standard with only 25 per cent winning an Award. Within the Coast to Capital region, there were four businesses and one individual who scooped the high profile Awards:
Queen’s Award for International Trade:
Winners in this category have demonstrated their business has achieved substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success (for their business size and sector) through either outstanding achievement over 3 years, or continuous achievement over 6 years.
In the Coast to Capital area, the following companies received an Award:
Crawley based Elekta Ltd
, designs and manufactures solutions for the radiotherapy treatment of cancer including hardware, software and services.
G3Baxi Partnership Limited
, based in Dorking, operates in a niche market providing a bespoke service to international and national oil companies.
Queen’s Award for Innovation:
Winners in this category have demonstrated their business has substantially improved in areas of performance and commercial success by either outstanding innovation, continued over at least 2 years, or continuous innovation and development over at least 5 years.
ADF Milking Limited, based in Slindon, West Sussex, won its award for a revolutionary automatic dipping and fluid system - a patented in-cluster mechanism for use in milking parlours that increases efficiency and improves cow health by reducing the risk of disease associated with milking cows.
Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion:
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion recognises people who have played an outstanding role in promoting the growth of business enterprise and/or entrepreneurial skills and attitudes in others.
Mr Michael Herd, Executive Director of The Sussex Innovation Centre (SInC), a business incubation company attached to the University of Sussex was awarded a Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion. This recognised his work advising University spin-out companies and other local organisations.
Increasing international trade and entrepreneurship are two core priorities of the Coast to Capital LEP. Juliette Green, Board Member for Enterprise, said: “We warmly congratulate those businesses in our region which have been recognised for delivering excellence. As we all know, running a successful business in today's economic climate is particularly challenging and it is a huge accolade to win a Queen's Award for Enterprise.
Our congratulations also go to Mr Michael Herd, who has been of tremendous assistance to start-up companies in our region. We look forward to more Coast to Capital businesses winning Queen’s Awards in the years ahead."
Winners of The Queen’s Awards are visited by a Royal representative and presented with a crystal bowl to mark their achievement. They also attend a celebratory reception at Buckingham Palace. They can use The Queen’s Award Emblem in advertising, marketing and on packaging for a period of five years as a symbol of their quality and success.
