Leatherhead and District Chamber of Commerce have helped kick-start 2013 for local businesses by hosting the first ever Leatherhead Business Exchange and launching the 2013 prestigious Leatherhead and District Business Awards.

Rosemary French, Executive Director of the Gatwick Diamond Initiative addressed more than 80 local companies, business owner and policy makers yesterday at the state-of the art Police Federation headquarters in Leatherhead, to outline the significant contribution that Leatherhead and District makes to the overall economic success of the Gatwick Diamond are and to share some recent data on economic performance.

Jackie Quinn, President of Leatherhead and District Chamber said: “There was a great buzz in the room today.  We are lucky in the area to have a strong and successful business community ranging from globally-recognised corporates through to innovative enterprises.   By bringing everyone together in this way, we are helping to grow the economy of Mole Valley and inspire others to achieve their potential.”

An expert panel, including representatives from UK Trade and Investment, Menzies Accountants, Mundays law firm and NESCOT, were on hand to answer questions on tricky topics such as flexible working, taking on apprentices and achieving growth through international trade.  Representatives from local and regional government also spoke of their initiatives to boost the local economy during these challenging trading conditions.

The event concluded with the official launch of the Leatherhead & District Business Awards 2013.  John Hickey, Executive Director of the Leatherhead & District Chamber of Commerce, said at the launch: "The Chamber is delighted to support the annual Leatherhead & District Business Awards.  Now in its fourth year, the Awards scheme is a fitting celebration of the talent that abounds in the local business community.  Each year, the judges are encouraged by the high standard of entries.”
