MacCarthy Aviation has made a significant impact into the North American market with MRO specialist Midair. Midair, who specialise in fleet modification and upgrades, has used MacCarthy Aviation on two significant projects, once of which is nearing an end.
MacCarthy Aviation has modified five complete ship sets of B747 galleys from KSSU to ATLAS standard. The fleet of ex Singapore Airlines was acquired by an Eastern European airline that operates using ATLAS standard catering equipment. The ex Singapore aircraft needed all the galleys to be converted prior to being put in to service. The galleys were shipped to our UK facility, from USA, converted, rewired and returned while the aircraft was undergoing overhaul and modification, explains Phil Francis, Sales Director MacCarthy Aviation. “The last set will be shipped in February 2012.”
“Midair also contracted us to provide engineering support for a EASA STC for the cabin reconfiguration of 4 ex South African Airways B747’s which are being converted in to High density configuration, changing the capacity from 370 to 522 passengers. The work includes a completely new IFE system and in seat power modification throughout the cabin. MacCarthy Aviation are responsible for compiling and submitting the full EASA STC package and coordinating data from suppliers from a range of different elements of the project including IFE, Seat and cabin equipment suppliers. The aircraft, which will operate on an EASA AOC, underwent a major configuration change in preparation for the new customer.”
