The Gatwick Diamond Meet the Buyers programme was developed in response to the growing need for efficiency and time management.
Set to boost the local economy

The Gatwick Diamond Meet the Buyers programme was developed in response to the growing need for efficiency and time management. It loosely relates to the speed dating concept but for buyers and suppliers. Before the event suppliers will have the opportunity to study the Buyers’ Catalogue, a listing in which the buyers have highlighted their purchasing needs. From this, suppliers can identify the buyers that they would like meet with for 10 minute pre-arranged appointments.
Last year’s programme involved 364 local companies in total, with the estimated value of business generated through the programme just shy of £3m - an excellent result, and shows a year on year increase. Now in its eleventh year the 2011 Meet the Buyers event looks set to be even bigger, with 30 buyers already confirmed including companies such as: British Airways, Thales UK, MITIE and Gatwick Construction.
The event is designed to give local suppliers the chance to network with buyers who are looking for new and innovative suppliers for upcoming tenders, which they might not have met otherwise. Likewise, buyers get an opportunity to source new suppliers and develop relationships with local SMEs and other buyers in the area.
Last year Lynette Hollender from Balfour Beatty said:

In one day I can meet innovative suppliers matched to our requirements offering a new and effective approach to building supplier, buyer and contractor relationships. As a result of attending we have placed contracts with local suppliers”.

The free workshops leading up to the Meet the Buyers event (30th June 2011), will help SMEs prepare for the networking day and the potential tendering opportunities beyond. Led by consultants with years of industry experience, these workshops are the most efficient way to get SMEs up to speed for Meet the Buyers and the prospective tendering process.
This year the workshops will cover: ‘Opportunities at Gatwick Airport’, ‘Tender Writing’, ‘Discover how to win Business in China and India’ and ‘12 Steps to Successful Marketing’.
The Gatwick Diamond Meet the Buyers 2011 event, sponsored by Gatwick Airport, the Gatwick Diamond Initiative, Crawley Borough Council, Mid Sussex District Council, Horsham District Council and supported by Reigate & Banstead, Tandridge and Mole Valley District Councils is taking place on Thursday 30th June 2011, 9:00am – 5:00pm, at The Arora Hotel, Crawley. The sponsors aim to promote local sourcing and improve growth in the Gatwick Diamond region. To encourage local SMEs to join this year’s event, the sponsors are subsidising the entrance fee for businesses operating in the Gatwick Diamond area.
